Le Mas Gourdou
is located 25 km (15½ mi.) from Montpellier, near the border
between the Hérault and Gard departments, in the heart of
the Pic Saint Loup A.O.C. zone.
The estate, which has been in the family since the French Revolution,
spreads across several communities: Valflaunes, Sauteyrargues.
The grapevines are planted on small parcels of land amid forests of
green oaks and Aleppo pines, surrounded by Mediterranean foliage
(rosemary, thyme, strawberry trees, lavender) which contribute to the
wines' flavors.
At the foot of the Hortus Mountains, at an altitude of 150 meters (492
feet), the land is shielded from the cold North winds, the Mistral and
Tramontane. Facing Southeast, it benefits from maximum exposure to
Southern French sunshine.
The planting is essentially composed of Syrah, Grenache Noir, Grenache
Blanc, and Mouvedre varieties.
