The name \"Mas de Gourdou\" has its roots in distant history, appearing as early as 1320 as \"mansum de gordono\", listed in the Maguelonne cartulary. Its origins lie in the name of its owner at the time, Guillaume de Gourdou, with \"gordono\" being of Visigothic origin. Further testimony to the age and rich history of this land.<\/p>

It should also be noted that in 1212, \"Durand de Gourdon (or Gordon) de Valflaun\u00e8s\" was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and his name remains engraved at the entrance to this institution, underlining the importance and renown of the family in the region for centuries.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A family heritage<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Mas Gourdou, a family estate since the French Revolution, is a witness to the evolution of Languedoc winegrowing. Situated at the foot of the Pic Saint Loup and the Hortus mountains, this estate has lived through different eras: until 1939, the family produced its own wine, and from 1939 to 2001, production was sold to the village of Valflaun\u00e8s' cooperative winery. In 2001, Jocelyne and Jean Claude Th\u00e9rond decided to take over wine production at the estate and set up their own winery.<\/p>

Mas Gourdou has been an integral part of the Th\u00e9rond family history for decades. With a passion for vines and terroir handed down from generation to generation, it was in 2013 that Beno\u00eet, son of the family, took over the reins of this iconic vineyard, housed in a building dating back to the 13th century. In 2015, marking a significant milestone, a new, more modern winery built of Pont du Gard stone was fitted out to continue ageing unique wines.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The soil<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Pic Saint-Loup PDO area, the northernmost in Languedoc, is dominated by the Pic Saint-Loup limestone massif. The vineyards, surrounded by garrigues, groves of Aleppo pine and holm oak, benefit from a Mediterranean limestone environment. Here, winegrowers apply a know-how that has been handed down for generations, adapting to the specificities of the soil and climate. Grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Cinsaut, Mourv\u00e8dre and Carignan are planted under the most suitable conditions. Daily temperature variations favor fine, fresh aromas in the wines.<\/p>

Mas Gourdou, anchored in the heart of this exceptional region, owns vineyards and produces wines in the Pic Saint-Loup PDO. Recognized in 2017, it imposes strict agro-environmental practices to preserve its unique terroir. This dynamic wine-growing region, rich in history, has been attracting wine enthusiasts since Roman times.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
